As an assignment in one of my photo classes, we were tasked with picking a photographer with a very specific or iconic method of lighting. As a mainly portrait photographer who is also obsessed with the aesthetic of the "Hollywood Glamour Shot," George Hurrell was an obvious choice. Using myself as a model, I set out to take a photo that successfully recreated his iconic style of lighting.
One of the most widely recognized styles of portraiture is the "Hollywood Glamour Shot" from the era of the legendary Marilyn Monroe. The photo's strikingly high contrast and smoothness are the main factors that make up this iconic style. Tasked with recreating a very specific or iconic lighting style in a photographic lighting class, I choose one of the most well known Hollywood photographers from the glamour shot era.
